As we gear up to celebrate the special day, here are a few facts to know about Book Lovers Day.

Every year, Book Lovers Day is celebrated on August 9. Even though the origin of the day is unknown, it is celebrated by book lovers as a day to read and relax.

In 1436, the printing press was invented in Germany by Johannes Gutenberg with the prime intention of printing Bibles. However, soon the press began to be used for printing other things – one of them was books. The printing press, typewriter and computer, throughout history, has contributed immensely to the way books are perceived, printed, and marketed.

There are no side effects or ill effects of reading. Reading helps us to expand our minds and make space for newer experiences to happen to us. They also help us to think further, deeper and with fresh perspectives. This age-old hobby is a favourite pastime, favourite way of learning, and favourite way of taking ourselves away from reality, even if it means for some time. This day is celebrated by book lovers to bring back the habit of reading and enjoying books for the sole purpose of learning and seeking knowledge.
