There are a plethora of trends that come and go every year and people follow them religiously but there are few that become a hit and continue to slay for next few years and likewise, 2022 was the year of big hits in the skincare, beauty and makeup industry as people started indulging in it again. The year saw many new infusions, categories across skincare, makeup and even the launch of new ingredients that were a rage among the customers which the experts foresee to grow in the year 2023 too.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dolly Kumar, Cosmetic Engineer and Founder at Skinella, revealed, “One of the popular trends that was majorly hit amongst teenagers was Vitamin C as it is considered to be one of the best and safest serum of all and suits all skin types. From face washes to sunscreen, day cream and moisturizers Vit C was the hero ingredient and will remain to continue being one for the foreseeable future. The amazing part of it is the unbeatable benefits for the skin. Another trend in the row is DIYs with home ingredients & superfoods, it has been in the talks since the pandemic and people really enjoy the flavor of mixing and trying the new variations while feeling the skin with great benefits. Skincare has now become a lifestyle that everyone wants to enjoy and they take out time to do as well.”
According to Plabita Sharma, National Training Head at The Body Shop, just like how consumers are now paying attention to what they put on their skin, they are also becoming mindful of the ingredients the products they use contain. She said, “Plant-based skincare products having naturally sourced ingredients are a growing trend this year because of having reputation for being less toxic with many nourishing benefits. For instance, naturally sourced ingredients like Vitamin C, Hemp, Leontopodic acid, Shea, and Argan are witnessing more and more takers. We can expect a surge in consumers making ingredient-based choices when it comes to skincare and personal care since they want the best for their skin.”
She added, “Skincare with SPF is another trend that will persist in the future. Foundations, moisturizers with SPF have been a hit among consumers especially with millennials and GenZ. We may see Makeup with SPF having a good hold among consumers in the long run. Additionally, the concept of ‘Sustainable & clean beauty’ will continue to boom in the coming years. The young generation have become very conscious of their choices and are more enthralled towards the ethical, sustainable, vegan and cruelty free brands.”
Bringing his expertise to the same, Hitesh Dewett, Training and Artistry Manager at Swiss Beauty, said, “Beauty trends are quite experimental and keep changing however few of them become evergreen for those special days or mood. One of the popular makeup hits was ‘Multipurpose makeup’ for instance ‘applying cream blush on lips, cheeks and nose’ to create the no makeup natural look. The reason behind this trend becoming popular like never before is the less product usage, all you need is one cream blush in your pocket and you can amp up your look. Products with multipurpose features were a great hit such as foundations with hydration creams, lip gloss with lipstick etc.”
He concluded, “Cream tints are seeing a lot of traction from the consumers and this year we may see new formulations in this category. In makeup, ‘Graphic eyeliner’ was another trend that got popular amongst the young audience where colors like neon, green and glitters took over the usual black liner.”
