He said the police had an apprehension since beginning that the two accused would attempt to surrender to evade police custody. “We had deployed our men in civvies to keep watch around court premises and eventually, it yielded us a result. The duo was arrested when they reached the court to surrender,” he said.

One of the two accused, Vikram Singh is believed to have received patronage from local cops as he grew his nexus and got involved in extortion activities in Hazratganj and its vicinity. The role of some police officials is suspected in allowing Singh an easy escape after he opened fire on Vaibhav.
The initial probe revealed that monetary dispute between Vaibhav and Shukla related to property business was the reason behind the incident. To resolve the dispute, Shukla reportedly had taken the help of Singh, who is listed as a history-sheeter at the Hazratganj police station and have over 27 criminal cases registered against him in Lucknow. Allegedly, the duo approached Vaibhav for a conversation, but during an argument, Singh opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
