The decomposed body of an ice cream vendor was found in a graveyard in Ujariaon locality of Gomtinagar on Thursday. The victim Rajendra Chauhan, 25, had been missing for the last three days, said police.

Notably, Chauhan was allegedly murdered after being kidnapped by four people near Samtamoolak crossing when he was returning home late on Monday night. His friend Ashok Kumar had lodged an FIR of his kidnapping with the Gomtinagar police station on Tuesday and had named four persons Ram Sujan, Niranjan, Ram Autar and Suresh Pandey in the matter.

It was reported that the police initially took the case lightly and did not make any effort to locate the victim. His body was later recovered barely two kilometers from Samtamoolak crossing where he was allegedly kidnapped.

District police spokesman Alok Pathak said after the discovery of the body, the police have altered the FIR into a murder case, as the preliminary probe suggests that he has been strangulated to death. The body however has been sent for postmortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death and efforts are on to arrest the four persons named in the FIR by the victim’s friend, he said.
