3 held for robbing SoBo angadia of ₹15L at gunpoint

Lokmanya Tilak Marg police have arrested three men in connection with a robbery of 15 lakh of a south Mumbai angadia (money transfer agent). According to the police, the three accused have been identified as Mohammed Yunus Qazi, 40, from Rajasthan, Salaam alias Yasim Mohammed Mansuri, 25, from Madhya Pradesh and Rahul alias Manoj Shivraj Gupta, 27, from Delhi.

An officer said that the incident took place on May 29, but was reported on May 31, as the victim was in a state of shock. The complainant, Prakash Mandal, 35, works at the angadia office in Bhuleshwar, had allegedly taken out 15 lakh to give to a client, Pujari. While making the transaction, four men barged into the office with knife and pistol and before Mandal could raise an alarm, they held Pujari and him at gun-point, robbing the office of money and valuables they could find easily, including the 15 lakh.

The police were informed two days later.

“On receiving the complaint, we began scanning the CCTV recordings of the area and were able to follow the robbers till Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus station from where they boarded a train to Rajasthan,” said a police officer from LT Marg police station.

On Saturday, with the help of the Delhi police, Qazi and Mansuri, who had arrived the same morning from Kota, were arrested. The officers were later able to arrest Gupta as well.

Two mobile phones were recovered from the accused which were used to plan the robbery and execute it. The police however are now on a look out for their forth accomplice and the weapons used in the robbery. “We are also investigating how the four men targeted Mandal’s office and whether they were tipped off by someone,” said the officer.
