Drama ensued inside an Andheri magistrate court as an accused in his mid 20s managed to procure a sharp object and cut himself deep on the cheek on Monday afternoon.
The police suspect that the accused cut himself with a blade, which either he or his aide had hidden on them.
Blood was spattered on the floor outside court no. 44.The incident occurred around 3.30 pm when two of the accused arrested by the Vile Parle police were brought to court no. 22 to be produced before a magistrate.
One of the accused told the magistrate, “They picked me up under section 142 [of the Indian penal code] but brought me here under section 99. I want to be discharged now. I have not committed any other crimes besides jumping my externment period.” He asked the magistrate to discharge him once more, saying his relative had been admitted to the hospital.
The man then caught hold of the policeman who had been pulling him by his handcuff. He refused to let go of the policeman’s collar. He verbally abused the policemen and threatened to commit suicide if they did not retract the ‘false charge’.
“Give me two more blades and watch me cut my neck,” the accused said to a female relative.
Around 4.18 pm the accused were dragged out of the court premises. They refused to sit in the van. A police official said a fresh FIR will be filed against the accused for assault and for obstructing the police from doing their duty.
