After Shiv Sena, Congress holds rally at Nanar to oppose oil refinery project
Senior party leaders from Maharashtra hold public meeting with villagers opposed to the projectUpdated: May 02, 2018 14:00 IST
After Shiv Sena’s rally at Nanar, Ratnagiri, last week, the Congress is holding a rally in the village on Wednesday to oppose the proposed oil refinery project that locals are up in arms against.
The rally follows a meeting in Delhi last week between Congress president Rahul Gandhi and a delegation of villagers opposed to the project.
Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan, All India Congress Committee general secretary and state in-charge Mohan Prakash and leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil will meet people from 16 villages in Ratnagiri who have objected to the refinery, after which they will hold a public meeting at Katradevi in Rajapur tehsil.
Gandhi has reportedly told the villagers’ delegation to oppose the project as it is harmful to the environment.
