According to the police, the incident occurred at Shriram pada, a locality comprising chawls. “Eleven motorcycles and a car were parked on the road and they were set on fire,” said a police officer.

The residents who were sleeping were woken up by heavy smoke. They realized that the vehicles had been set ablaze.

The fire-brigade was informed, after which the fire was brought under control. The unidentified accused has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).

Police are questioning locals to zero in on the culprits.
