Mumbai man kidnaps, rapes minor twice in a year, arrested
A 23-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 17-year-old girl for the second time in a year.
According to the Bandra police, on both occasions, the accused kept the survivor in Hyderabad for four months. The girl is a Class 12 student and is four months pregnant. She and the accused live in the same area in Bandra (West).
An officer, requesting anonymity, said, the accused kidnapped her in July 2017 and took her to Hyderabad and kept her in a rented room. He worked there in a private firm.
The girl’s family searched for her everywhere and eventually approached the Bandra police who registered a kidnapping case. The police got the girl’s details through mobile tower location and after questioning her relatives. They spoke to her through a relative and she, along with the accused, were brought to Mumbai, on October 23, 2017. The accused was arrested under charges of kidnapping but the Bandra police did not book him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act despite the girl being two months pregnant, said the officer.
The accused came out on bail and after two months, he took the girl to Hyderabad on January 6, 2018. He kept the girl in a rented house and started working there. He allegedly raped her several times and got her pregnant, the officer said. The family approached the Bandra police again and this time a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, including rape and kidnapping, was registered against the accused. “We learnt that this time too he had gone to Hyderabad. A police team brought the survivor and the accused to Mumbai on Thursday, said senior inspector Pandit Thakare.
