Mumbai trader attacked with chopper over dues dies in hospital

A 42-year-old trader from APMC market, who was allegedly attacked with a chopper on Wednesday, died in MGM hospital in Vashi on Friday.

According to the police, the victim, Asish Dhorani, and the accused, Shankar Malusare, 33, got into a scuffle near Dhorani’s shop on Wednesday.

“Malusare had bought coconuts from Dhorani a few months ago, but he did not pay for it. When Dhorani asked for it that day, the two got into an argument. In a fit of rage, Malusare attacked Dhorani with a chopper,” said a police officer from APMC police station.

Dhorani suffered severe injuries to his chest. He was rushed to MGM hospital in Vashi. His condition started deteriorating on Thursday evening and he died around 12.30am on Friday.

The police sent his body to NMMC hospital in Vashi for post-mortem.

Malusare was arrested on Wednesday. “The accused is in our custody. We are interrogating him to find out if there were other reasons behind the attack,” another police officer said.
