Redevelopment of city slums on Centre-owned land may get cleared soon as Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday directed the state to call a joint meeting of all concerned state ministries to resolve the issue.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis raised the matter at the 23rd meeting of the western zonal council held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. “Requested to immediately resolve slum redevelopment issue, where Govt of India departments land is involved” Fadnavis tweeted.

There are 11 Central establishments which have land parcels in Mumbai. The encroached land area with slums is around 517 acres. The state has been unable to redevelop these plots as it is not getting a nod from the Central ministries. The issue has been pending since years and needs immediate attention, Fadnavis reportedly said at the meet.

To make affordable housing possible under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on salt pan land, the CM asked chief secretary Sumit Mullick to discuss with Central government officials this week to frame a policy.
