Thane call centre racket: Bank accounts of mastermind to be freezed
Four teams have been formed to find Thakkar, who is suspected to have fled the country
The Thane police plan to freeze the bank accounts of Sagar Thakkar, the mastermind of the Mira Road call centre racket in which more than 6,500 US citizens were cheated. The police are also going through his accounts on various social networking sites to keep track of people he was in touch with.
Four teams have been formed to find Thakkar, who is suspected to have fled the country. They searched more than 20 buildings in Malad, Mira Road and nearby areas in the vicinity on Wednesday.
“We are in the process of freezing his bank accounts. So far, we haven’t got leads on his whereabouts. We have alerted other police stations and our sources. We have visited all places which Thakkar frequented,” said an officer from Thane police.
“We have checked the documents obtained from the raids at the call centre to know more about the strength of the company,” said another officer.
