Thane ZP election: Shiv Sena-NCP alliance scores big victory against BJP

The Shiv Sena won 26 seats, BJP 14 , NCP 10, Congress one, one won by an independent candidate and the result for one seat was not declared.

The Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress party (NCP) alliance on Thursday, scored a major victory against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by winning 26 of the 53 seats in the Thane zilla parishad elections.

Of the 53 seats, 21 are in Bhiwandi, 14 in Shahapur, eight in Murbad, six in Kalyan and four in Ambernath.

The BJP won 14 seats, NCP 10, Congress one, independent one and the result for one seat was not declared.

The panchayat samiti election had 106 seats up for grabs - 28 in Shahapur, 16 in Murbad, 12 in Kalyan, 42 in Bhiwandi and eight in Ambernath.

While Sena won 47 seats, BJP won 37, NCP 16, Congress two, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena one, others one, and two were not declared.
