Three police drivers were injured on Friday morning after a coconut tree fell on the roof of a Thane rural police drivers’ restroom at Court naka.

They suffered minor injuries and were immediately taken to a civic hospital. The drivers were discharged after some time as they had suffered minor injuries.

The drivers’ rest room is situated opposite Thane Crime Branch Unit 1.

The old structure does not have a permanent roof but is covered with an asbestos sheet.

“When the coconut tree snapped and fell on the roof of the building, the temporary roof, made of asbestos, immediately collapsed. We noticed the impact had damaged the single-floor building. We alerted the fire brigade and the three injured were rescued,” said Sande0sh Nirale, officer, Thane crime branch unit 1.

The Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) and fire brigade rescued the three injured — VK Mane, 42, NR Awhad, 26, and DN Gaware, 26 — who were on duty when the incident occurred. “Apart from the roof, there are no major damages. We have removed the tree,” said Santosh Kadam, chief of RDMC.
