Two shooters belonging to underworld don Ravi Pujari’s gang were arrested for trying to extort Rs10 crore from a prominent builder in Thane.

The Thane anti-extortion cell nabbed Malad resident Nitin Gopal Roy, 42, and Ghatkopar resident Dinesh Narayan Roy, 51, at Hiranandani Estate late on Friday after senior police inspector Pradeep Sharma received a tip-off.

Both the accused have worked for different gangs, but joined Pujari’s gang a few years ago, said police.

“The accused confessed that they had come to shoot a builder on October 7. They said Pujari had called the builder a few weeks ago and demanded Rs10 crore. When the builder refused, they hatched a plot to kill him. We have kept the builder’s name confidential owing to investigative reasons,” said Sharma.

Over the past few days, the accused had been visiting Thane to spy on the builder.

“When I received a tip-off, we formed several teams and searched several sensitive areas in Thane. When we searched the accused, we found two guns and a few bullets. The nearby police station registered a case,” said Sharma.

Police said Dinesh had been arrested in the past. The two accused are history-sheeters and several cases have been registered against them.
