MUMBAI: An accident was reported with the Govandi police station, wherein a petrol tanker driver hit five police constables during a nakabandi at Panjarpol junction
MUMBAI: An accident was reported with the Govandi police station, wherein a petrol tanker driver hit five police constables during a nakabandi at Panjarpol junction in Chembur. The five constables include two woman police constables, who were admitted to Joy Hospital, while the driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested later.

According to the police, the incident took place at 5pm on Saturday when the constables posted with the Locals Arms department at Naigaon were at the junction during an anti-chain snatching drive.
The driver, Mahadev Pawar, who is resident of Aurangabad, was going to Navi Mumbai, police said.
An officer from Govandi police station said, “The driver was heading towards Navi Mumbai from Chembur. As he was drunk, when he witnessed the nakabandi he got scared, after which he lost control over his vehicle and hit them”
The five injured constables have been identified as Sukhdev Kolekar, 46, Ramdas Charolkar, 42, Arun Soni, while the woman police constables were identified as Sunita More, 25, and Surekha Pawar, 25. Kolekar’s left hand got fractured in the incident.
Senior police inspector Uttam Kolekar from Govandi police station said, “Kolekar is still in the hospital while the others have been discharged. We conducted a medical examination on the driver that confirmed he was driving under the influence of alcohol.”
