Thorat told Shinde used to do odd jobs to support his family. He was out since morning to find work when he stepped on the mesh of naked wires.

The wires were scattered around the pole as some work undertaken by the municipal corporation was on.

Police said they are investigating if Shinde died because of negligence on behalf of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

"If their role is established, we will file a case of negligence against the municipal corporation," Thorat said.
