The police said Ejaz Ul, a resident of Malwani, had gone to the beach for an outing with a group of four or five friends and two of them entered the water. The others stayed ashore.

Ejaz was pulled into the deep sea with the force of the tide. Though his friends noticed him struggling to stay afloat, they could not help him as they did not know how to swim.

Ejaz’s friends alerted the police control room and the police immediately informed the lifeguards posted at the beach. They searched for Ejaz inside the water but could not find him.

After an hour, Ejaz’s body was brought ashore by the tide. He was taken to the Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli where he was declared dead on arrival, said a police officer.
