At least 100 buildings violating FSI rules in city: BMC to SC

There are at least 100 other Campa Cola-like buildings, which are in violation of floor space index (FSI) norms across the city. The civic body has admitted to this in an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, after the top court ordered it to file a detailed reply on illegal constructions in Mumbai.

These 100-odd structures are only those that violate FSI norms and do not include buildings with minor illegal alterations or unauthorised constructions such as slums.

The BMC has provided a list of the buildings with individual violations. For instance, an under-construction building in Kandivli had permission for only six floors, but it stands at 12 floors even without a commencement certificate.

Such buildings could be in trouble after the SC hearing later this week.

Senior civic officials declined to comment, but confirmed that such an affidavit was filed. “These illegalities are in various stages of being taken action against. There are many which have been issued final notices, but they have approached the court asking for a stay,” said a senior civic official.
