Kishore Kumar Vyas, a resident of Bhandup, was on his way to Sewri to purchase goods from a railway auction, when the incident took place.

“I boarded bus route no. 461, plying between Bhandup and Jogeshwari, from Bhandup to go to the last stop. I was holding a nylon bag containing some bank receipts and a packet having Rs 2.31 lakh cash,” Vyas said.

“The money was to purchase second hand goods from a auction to be held at Sewri later in the day,” he said adding that when the bus reached IIT Powai stop he found his bank receipt on the bus floor. “My bag had been cut open from one side from where the receipt fell. When I checked inside, I found the cash missing.”

Vyas informed the conductor who stopped the bus but the packet was not found. He took an auto and went to the IIT Powai stop as four men had got down at the stop. However, he couldn’t trace any one.

“I approached the Powai police,” he said. Police inspector Mahavir Tiwatne said, “We have registered a case of theft against unknown accused.”

There was no CCTV camera installed inside the bus.
