The PIL alleges connivance between government officers, corporation officers, SRA officers and developers. It says the state government gave six properties of large dimensions as largesse to be developed into special township projects in an arbitrary, illegal, capricious and suspicious manner.

Somaiya’ s PIL, which was filed on Tuesday says that in the name of helping slum dwellers, the government gave away the rights to their property without consent thereby violating the norms.

The PIL alleges the government gave away 235 lakh sq ft of prime land to six selected builders – Ackruti City, Lashkaria Constructions, Lokhandwala Shelters India, Ruchi Priya Developers, Shivalik Ventures and Sterling Buildcon – which is an abuse of provisions of the Slum Rehabilitation Act. It also says the approvals were given on a first come first serve basis.
