The Sahar police station booked Kirit Lasvji Makwana for theft. The Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate's Court granted him bail against a cash deposit of Rs 5,000.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday when Meher Maneckshaw, a Singapore-bound passenger, forgot his phone in the screening tray at the security hold. Makwana who was behind Maneckshaw in the queue, picked it up and disappeared in the crowded departure terminal. Maneckshaw soon rushed back to the security hold but could not trace the phone.
"We checked the closed circuit television camera footage and caught Makwana soon," said a CISF official.
Initially, Makwana denied the charge but when the handset was seized from his pocket, he confessed. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
