The family of Sunanda Valan, in their statement to the Juhu police, said that they do not suspect any foul play.

The police had last week received a letter from Sunanda’s mother which read that their daughter was stubborn and would often get offended if things did not work according to her, said the police.

However, since the deceased was a British national, the police asked them to come to Mumbai, following which their statement would be recorded.

“The body has been handed over to Sunanda’s father and the family has ruled out any foul play,” said Deepak Katkade, senior inspector from Juhu police station. They refused to divulge names of Sunanda’s parents.

On October 29, Sunanda and her husband, Ajay, came to the city for a 15-day vacation. They then went to Gujarat to pay a visit to Ajay’s relatives.

Sunanda, who was working as a medical receptionist in a London-based hospital, was not happy with her visit to India, the police had said.

“In his statement, Sunanda’s father said that his daughter was under depression after coming to India as she was not accustomed to the surroundings here and wanted to return,” added Katkade.
