A CBI statement said the agency registered a case on Friday after one Sunil Shirole and the lawyer, MS Mhase, demanded the kickback from the complainant (the owner of a private limited company) in return for a favourable verdict in a matter pending with the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission in New Delhi.

The statement said that after verifying the complaint, the CBI laid a trap on Monday. CBI officials arrested two persons while accepting the bribe amount, allegedly on behalf of Mhase and Shirole. They are presently in police custody.

CBI sources said that Mhase was summoned to the agency’s office at Colaba on Wednesday morning and was interrogated. Sources said she did not utter a single word during the questioning.

She was arrested in the evening. The agency has not arrested Shirole as yet.

The CBI also searched the residential and office premises of Mhase and Shirole. Mhase will be produced before a special CBI court on Thursday.
