The police said the accused, Manojkumar Bansal Agarwal alias Ravi Kapoor, had also cheated a banker from Dahisar of Rs 50,000 by making similar promises. After the Dahisar police arrested him, Agarwal was sent to the custody of the Mira Road police on Wednesday.

Mira Road police said the complainant is a resident of Mira Road, where she lives with her husband and their four-year-old son. The complainant, the police said, is employed as a deputy manager at a bank in Borivli.

The police said the accused had a savings account in the complainant’s bank and met her a few months ago through one Reshma Sayyed who would handle Agarwal’s monetary transactions at the bank. Upon meeting the complainant, Agarwal told her she was very pretty and that she should act in television soaps. He told her that he had several contacts in the television industry and could find her work.

“Agarwal got a portfolio made of the victim and told her that as he had to pay the casting director to get her a role, she should pay him some money. The complainant then gave him jewellery worth Rs 3.48 lakh and Rs 3 lakh in cash,” said D Kshirsagar, senior inspector, Mira Road police.

When the complainant recently realised the con, she registered a case of cheating.
