Developers to plant saplings on new building premises
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to make it mandatory for builders and developers to plant saplings on the premises of their new constructions.

“If the builder does not have space on the premise, he will be asked to plant them in municipal gardens or open spaces,” Swadheen Kshatriya, municipal commissioner said on Friday.
“But the expenses of their maintenance will have to be borne by the builder as the civic officials would look after them,” he added.
Kshatriya said as there was no policy decision on new plantations. The decision taken at the tree committee meeting on Thursday would eventually help increase the green cover in the city.
Kshatriya said that while the municipal corporation had decided to plant one lakh saplings, the city’s planning agency said it will plant around one crore saplings.
