Rajesh Surve, 25, his parents Naresh, 45, and Kalpana, 43, and elder sister Meena Salve, 30, allegedly set the victim, Meena Surve, on fire after she failed to get Rs 1 lakh dowry from her father, the Mankhurd police said.

Meena, who sustained 100 % burn injuries, is admitted to Sion hospital where her condition is said to be critical. “The victim had married Rajesh a year ago. Rajesh, his parents and elder sister had started harassing Meena for dowry and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not get Rs 1 lakh from her father,” an officer said, on condition of anonymity.

“On Sunday around 9.45pm after yelling at Meena for not getting the amount, the accused set her on fire at their shanty in Annabhau Sathe locality of Mankhurd,” the officer added.
