Vilas Varak, the fitness instructor at Moksh gym who was told to go on leave after his name came up in investigations related to alleged Lashkar operative, David Headley, has lost his job.
The 28-year-old told Hindustan Times that he got a call from Hitendra Verma from the management informing
him that he need come back to work.
“Two days ago, I got a call from Verma. He told me that I have been fired,” a tense Varak said. “The NIA [National Investigation Agency] has also not said anything clearly and as long as I don’t get a clean chit, I won’t get a job anywhere.”
Headley, an American citizen, is being probed for his alleged role in the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai.
Varak alleged that that the gym did not pay him his salary for December and January.
“I worked for 15 days in November and they paid me the entire salary for that month but now they’re saying that they won’t pay me anything.”
The management of Moksh refused to react to Varak’s allegations. Verma said: “I will not be able to offer a reaction on this matter.”
Varak was asked to go on leave after his name had cropped up in investigations as one of Headley’s friends. His troubles began a fortnight before his wedding.
He got married on December 9 and said that he is under severe pressure because he has to support his family.
Varak and actor Rahul Bhatt were in touch with Headley. The Mumbai Crime Branch and the NIA have already investigated the duo’s relationship with Headley.
Bhatt, when contacted, said he was aware that Varak had been laid off and said that he was not sure why this was done. “I am taking care of him and he will eventually work with me,” Bhatt said.
