Illegal Pay-and-park racket busted in sobo, two arrested

Marine Drive police busted an illegal pay-and-park racket in South Mumbai. Police arrested one of the accused and are investigating the involvement of others.

The accused has been identified as Mohommad Abid Shaikh, 37. The police said he had been running an illegal parking lot in Jamnalal Bajaj Marg, along with Azgar Ali, who has fled.

Senior police inspector Popat Yadav from the Marine Drive police station said, “On Wednesday, BMC officer Tushar Samant reported to the police station with the complaint.

He said he had parked his car at the spot, paid and got a fake receipt.”

Following the complaint, a police team, along with BMC staff, was dispatched to the spot and the accused was nabbed. During Shaikh’s interrogation, the police learnt about Azgar’s involvement.

The accused has been booked under sections 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465 (Punishment for forgery), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. He has been remanded to police custody till Friday.
