Jeweller held for looting his own shop

The Charkop police arrested Balusingh Rajput (22), one of the partners of Monika jewellers, on Saturday night for looting his own shop to get an insurance claim of Rs 20 lakh, reports HT Correspondent.

On Friday, after a break-in complaint by Kishan Rajput (the second partner), the police registered a case. When the police reached the spot on Wednesday, they found Balusingh crying even though he had only a 20 per cent stake in the shop. “This attracted the attention of the investigators,” said Ramrao Pawar, additional commissioner of police, north region.

The watchman’s had told the police that he had seen Balu entering the shop on Thursday and also that the insurance agents had reached the shop 45 minutes before the police.

“Moreover, there was no trace of an attempt to break any of the six locks,” said Pawar.

Balu confessed to the crime. “Balusingh, was arrested on charges of theft. He has been remanded to police custody till April 15,” said an officer.

The police also recovered the entire stolen jewellery worth Rs 14.2 lakh from Balu’s sister’s house at Malvani.
