LT Marg police, on Monday, arrested a 25-year-old labourer who had been employed with a gold manufacturing unit in Kalbadevi, for stealing gold biscuits worth Rs18 lakh on October 6, 2011.

Acting on a tip-off by his relatives, Paresh Samanto was caught at Midnapore, West Bengal, where he had come to meet them.
Police say that the accused, a native of West Bengal, fled to Madgaon in Goa, after the incident in 2011, where he met his friend Jay Ghosh.
“Following his arrest, it came to the fore that the accused had met his friend Jay Ghosh at Madgaon, who worked in the gold manufacturing unit there. The duo splurged and enjoyed over a year in Madgaon and several other places in Goa. We have arrested the duo and recovered 251 grams of gold to the tune of Rs 7.5 lakh,” said an officer of LT Marg police.
During questioning, Samanto said that he thought of misleading the police by going to Madgaon. “Samanto thought that the police may have stopped his search and the case might have gone into a cold box,” added the officer. Both Ghosh and Samanto have been remanded is police custody.
