A 14-year-old girl, who was allegedly forced into prostitution, was rescued by the police from Thane on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Upiya Ghosh, 35, Abdul Hussain, 27, and Raju Haldar, 26. Ghosh works in a bar at Thane. Hussain, an autorickshaw driver and Haldar, a sweeper, were Ghosh’s neighbours, who allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.

Medical reports confirmed that the victim had been sexually harassed. “The victim was tortured and sexually exploited for a year before she escaped from the accused’s residence. Passers-by found her crying on the road along Wagale Estate,” said Meera Bansode, police inspector, Wagale estate police station.
“Ghosh said that her husband Wachant, who resides in Kolkata, brought the victim to her,” added Bansode.
The police however suspect that Ghosh lured the victim to Mumbai by promising her a job.
