Mumbai: Suspected thief severely hurt after falling off building

The police suspect the man was trying to sneak into a house by climbing a pipe, when he was spotted by locals. While attempting to escape, he lost his grip and fell, hitting his head to the ground.

A 20-year-old man, suspected to be a thief, is in critical condition after falling off the third floor of a residential building at CST on Friday night.

The police suspect the man was trying to sneak into a house by climbing a pipe, when he was spotted by locals.

While attempting to escape, he lost his grip and fell, hitting his head to the ground. He has been admitted to the intensive care unit.

According to the MRA Marg police, the incident took place around 11.15pm, after a few residents spotted a man on the second floor of Patel Niwas climbing the pipe. When they sounded an alert, the man panicked and started to climb up, but lost his grip.

“The man lost consciousness and was taken to St George hospital. His condition is critical,” said Ashok Jagdale, senior inspector, MRA Marg police station.

The officer said only after the man gives a statement, will the police know why he was climbing the building.

The police have found nothing on his person to ascertain his identity.

“So far no case has been registered,” said the officer.
