Nagpur I-T chief, kin granted bail

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Wednesday granted bail to Nagpur Income-Tax Commissi-oner Ajoy Kumar Singh.

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court on Wednesday granted bail to Nagpur Income-Tax Commissioner Ajoy Kumar Singh.

Singh (46) was arrested from Nagpur on Sunday for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The court released him on bail against a surety of Rs 5 lakh and observed that his custody was not required.

His wife Mrinalika (44), who was also arrested on the same day, was granted bail.

Singh’s sister Shanti Kumari and her husband Subash Chandra Kumar, who were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stashing Singh’s black money in their bank and post office savings accounts, were also granted bail by the special court on Wednesday.

The CBI had on Tuesday had filed a 40-page summary chargesheet against Singh, his wife, his 12 relatives and his charted accountant Kartik Kothari.

They have all been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The court has prohibited the accused from transferring any of the movable or immovable properties without its permission.

Singh and his wife have been forbidden from leaving the state without the CBI’s permission. Singh’s sister, Shanti, and her husband, Subash, cannot leave Andhra Pradesh and have to report to the local CBI office every fortnight.
