Speeding by car driver resulted in expressway accident, say police

KT Vidhate, senior inspector, Kalamboli police station, said: "The incident took place due to speeding by Xylo driver Sunil Lokhande. He has admitted that he was unable to control the vehicle and hit the rear of the truck."
The incident occurred at 5.15am place when Sunil, along with his family, was headed towards their residence at Kharghar following a visit to their native place in Solapur. The Xylo vehicle in which 10 members of the Lokhande families were travelling crashed into a truck.
Four members of the family from Kharghar - Anil Lokhande, 30; his wife Sujata, 28; sister-in-law Rani Sunil Lokhande, 25, who was four months pregnant and her son Abhishek, 3 - died on the spot, while Anil's mother Latika, 52, died later in the MGM hospital.
Five other members of the family who got injured are Anil's brother Sunil, 35; his son son Shubham, 7; and Anil's children Gauri, 6, Pragati, 5, and
Gayatri, 4. They have been admitted to the Kalamboli MGM hospital.
Though the truck driver fled, the police have seized the truck. "We are looking for the truck driver. He has not yet been traced," said Vidhate.
"The surviving family members are out of danger but are in a state of shock," added Vidhate.
