State hydro project helps avert power crisis

The state averted a major power crisis on Friday when a major thermal power project at Sipat, Chhattisgarh stopped working owing to a echnical snag.

The state averted a major power crisis on Friday when a major thermal power project at Sipat, Chhattisgarh stopped working owing to a echnical snag.

The state receives 650 MW of power from Sipat, but managed to avert the crisis by producing extra power from the Koyna hydro project. According to official information, state company Mahavitaran faced power shortafter the snag at Sipat around 7.05 pm on Friday. The shortfall could have tripped the entire power network.

"Koyna stabilized the network and we are facing problem ever since," said a Mahavitaran spokesperson.
