Tanker rams bike at Kurla, kills two

Two persons were killed as a speeding tanker rammed into a bike at Kurla on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when Karthik Ahulani, 22, a share-broking firm employee, and Avani Ractha, 22, a chartered accountancy student who also worked part-time, were heading from Bandra to their Ghatkopar residence on a bike. Ahulani was riding the the bike while Ractha was sitting pillion.

Around 11pm, a speeding tanker collided with the bike near Kohinoor Mall in Kurla. Consequently, Ahulani and Rachta were thrown off the vehicle. The duo sustained severe head injuries.

Leaving the injured behind, the driver of the tanker left the vehicle and fled from the spot. The locals rushed the duo to Rajawadi Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

As the news spread, around 200 people gathered around the tanker.

The police called in the state reserve police force (SRPF) to ensure that there is no law and order situation.

“We have registered a case of death due to rash and negligent driving against the tanker driver. The owner of the vehicle has been traced. We are making inquiries with him. We are also in the process of tracing the driver,” said Arunkumar Aigal, senior police inspector, Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station.
