“Based on the condition of the house, it does not appear that there was a forced entry. We suspect Kamble herself allowed the assailant to enter her fourth floor flat,” said DCP (zone 7) Sanjay Shintre. This raises the possibility that Kamble knew her killer.

An officer from Vikhroli police station, who did not wish to be identified, said that Kamble was a cautious person and unlike others in the building kept her door locked from the inside, especially during afternoons when she took a nap. “She did not allow anyone inside her house easily. The fact that the assailant managed to enter her house easily does raise the possibility that she knew the person well,” he said.

“We have not been able to record the statement of the family members as they are too grief-stricken to talk,” he added. The police are trying to find out if Kamble had got into a dispute or argument with anybody lately.
