A 25-year-old conwoman was arrested in connection with a car rental scam on Sunday.
Agnes Louis Meneges, a resident of Vasai, had been arrested in a similar offence five months ago, but was released on bail. Meneges was arrested from Bhandup after a Mira Road resident registered a complaint against her, the police said.
Explaining her modus operandi, the police said she published ads in newspapers with good money for people who wanted to rent their cars, which she would use for call centres.
Once the victim approached her she would give them the rent for two months and then sell off their vehicle after changing the number plates. They have recovered 12 luxurious cars from Meneges. HTC
