In order to ensure better transparency and accountability to the public, particularly homebuyers, the Greater Noida authority on Monday transferred some of its staff across departments.

The head of planning department in Greater Noida, Leenu Sehgal, has been transferred to the Yamuna Expressway industrial development authority (Yeida) in the same position. Yeida’s planning department head Meena Bhargav will now be handling the post in Greater Noida authority.

The Yeida has no permanent staff of its own and has borrowed staff from the Greater Noida authority.

Homebuyers in Greater Noida have been accusing Sehgal of not addressing their complaints against builders sensitively. The Greater Noida authority general manager, RK Dev, who was in urban services department has been shifted to the property wing. He too was facing complaints from homebuyers for allegedly issuing occupancy certificate in violation of norms.

However, Debasish Panda, chief executive officer, Greater Noida authority, said, “I have not shifted officials to other departments in response to complaints. They were shifted as these staff members had been in the same department for over three years. I have shifted the staff for better functioning. I want to maintain transparency and accountability and want officials to deal with public grievances seriously and act swiftly.”

Among other officials shifted, Alok Nath, general manager, who was in the Greater Noida authority’s property department, has been shifted to urban services. Anand Mohan Singh, a senior executive handling health and horticulture departments, will now take care only of horticulture. The health department will now be handled by senior manager Rajendra Bhati, who was in the project department.

Yogendra Sinha, who was handling marketing and department of personnel for the Greater Noida authority, has been shifted to the institutional department. He has also been given the charge of law and IT departments.

The authority has shifted 25 of its staff members to other departments, but Sehgal is the only one to be transferred to Yeida. Homebuyers have been angry with the attitude of the Greater Noida authority’s planning department towards their complaints.

“The Greater Noida authority’s staff, particularly in the planning department, never paid heed to our complaints against builders. The authority should depute officials who can look into issues seriously and provide some relief to complainants,” said Shashank Mishra, a buyer, adding that his builder is imposing unnecessary penalties and increasing the size of the flat, but the authority is unable to help him with it.

The authority CEO said he has made it clear to the staff to deal with buyers’ problems properly.

“I have made changes to the departments so that the staff work with fresh energy in the new departments and deliver better,” said Panda.
