Noida: Police arrest two accused of robbery after encounter

The police arrested two robbery accused after an encounter in Transport Nagar in Sector 69 on Friday evening. The police said the accused opened fire at the police party and the team fired in retaliation.
The accused were identified as Ankit Sharma and Rahul. They were shot in the leg by a team from the Phase-3 police station around 7pm on Friday. The duo has been admitted to the district hospital in Sector 30, Noida,for medical attention.
According to the police, a team had reached Transport Nagar acting on a tip-off from an informant. There, Sharma and Rahul fired at the police team. Police said the encounter took place at a deserted spot in Transport Nagar which has several factory outlets and offices.
Sharma and Rahul have been accused of shooting a Noida resident twice on the night of January 29 and police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on information leading to their arrest.
“We received a tip from our informant that the two wanted men were in Transport Nagar. A team was dispatched immediately to arrest them but the duo fired at us. Both Ankit and Rahul have been admitted to the hospital and they are out of danger,” said Jitendra Kumar, station house officer, Phase-3 police station.
The duo has been accused of inuring Mehjab and robbing him on January 29 in Noida on the pretext of buying a mobile phone which Mehjab was trying to sell on a classified advertisement portal.
“Both Ankit and Rahul had contacted Mehjab through the website saying they were interested in buying the cellphone. They called him to a deserted spot in Noida on January 29 to close the deal. On meeting him, they shot Mehjab twice in the chest and robbed him of his phone and laptop. The two men fled the scene in Hyundai Verna sedan,” Kumar said.
The police have recovered two countrymade pistols, live ammunition, the stolen laptop and mobile phone from the duo.
