Under the first phase, the facility was launched in Noida on Thursday and has been made available in 100 booths across Delhi-NCR.

Officials from Mother Dairy said 83 booths in Delhi and Haryana, seven in Noida and another 10 in Ghaziabad will now have the payment facility.

The Paytm facility will be extended to more than 750 milk booths in another month, the officials said. In subsequent phases, more than 350 Safal outlets will also start accepting payments through Paytm.

“From the morning supply of milk to all other everyday necessities, it is our mission to make payments extremely simple. By working with Mother Dairy, we would be able to bring a seamless payment experience to millions of people,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder & chief executive officer, Paytm.

To avail the service using the Paytm app, a consumer will be informed about the total amount to be paid after a product is chosen for purchase. Thereafter, the consumer scans a QR code which is prominently displayed at the booth (QR code is exclusive to each booth) and push the payment.

Thereafter, the concessionaire receives a confirmation message about the money transfer when the transaction is complete and the amount transferred.

Officials from Mother Dairy said expanding the service to all their booths is currently in progress and will be done in a similar proportion as was done for the first 100 booths.

“This (the service) is in addition to our SmartChange cards that are currently in use. We believe that with more and more people using smartphones, such initiatives will help consumers immensely. This will also help our booth concessionaires in bringing down the physical cash handling,” said S Nagarajan, managing director, Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Private limited.
