Samajwadi Party’s national general secretary and MP Surendra Nagar took up the issue in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

A trainee sub-inspector of police allegedly shot 25-year-old gym owner and trainer Jitendra Yadav on Saturday night in Sector 122. In the FIR, the family of the victim alleged that the sub-inspector shot Yadav with the intention of staging an encounter and thereby securing an ‘out-of-turn promotion’. However, Noida police has denied the allegation.

“The UP Police is staging fake encounters across the state and harassing innocent youth. We protested against fake encounters in the Rajya Sabha. We will take this issue up in the Lok Sabha and the UP assembly, and start a campaign against the UP government. We will not let the UP government promote such lawlessness,” Nagar said.

Last year, SP had protested against the killing of Sumit Gurjar, who was shot dead in an “encounter”.

“Many of these encounters are fake. There should be a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into fake encounters and the culprits should face legal action. We will start a district-wise campaign against lawlessness,” Nagar said.

The Congress will also hold protests against the alleged fake encounters in the state.

“Our party will protest against the UP government’s inaction and bad governance at all platforms. Our state unit head Raj Babbar has already started protesting against the Noida shooting. We will intensify our agitation if there is no fair probe in the Noida case, where a young man was shot for no fault of his,” said Rajendra Awana, organisation secretary of UP Congress.

Noida MLA Pankaj Singh met the victim’s family on Sunday and assured them a CBI probe in the case.

BJP senior leader and former UP minister Nawab Singh Nagar said, “There should be an independent investigation into the Noida case because the truth needs to come out. People are angry as the victim has no criminal record.”
