The meteorological department is closely watching the changing weather conditions and has predicted 45 to 47 degrees Celsius temperature in June.

For the past two days, Noida and Ghaziabad witnessed rains along with dust storms that brought down the temperature considerably. The heat wave had persisted earlier during the months of April and May.

“Last few days had been a bit comfortable because of the sudden change in weather followed by storms and rain in many parts across the city. On Sunday, the temperature in the night was brought down to 23 degrees Celsius while maximum was 36 degrees Celsius. But the scorching temperature will return from Tuesday or Wednesday,” said RK Janamani, a senior official with the meteorological department.

“We wish the monsoon season arrives soon to provide relief from heat and humidity. In Noida, we are facing long power cuts,” said Sandhya Jain of Sector 52.

In neighbouring Ghaziabad, residents suffered frequent power cuts during the period of heavy dust storms that prevailed during the weekend.

“For the past 2-3 days since the city is witnessing dust storms, local faults have increased that have led to outages. Since the temperatures have lowered down, the power cuts have reduced from earlier 6-8 hours to 4-5 hours a day,” said Mohan Sangwan from Indirapuram.

An official from the Paschimanchal Vidyut vitaran Nigam Limited said that some local faults persisted due to rough weather but power situation remained normal in trans-Hindon area except for Indirapuram.

“We had some power cuts as the transmission network was not available to fully meet the demand. Otherwise, the load has reduced due to weather conditions and other power supplies remained normal. On Sunday night, there was tripping in a feeder line at Shakti Khand and Niti Khand. On Monday afternoon, we changed the jumpers over the line. This will bring relief from power outages,” said MC Sharma, superintending engineer of PVVNL.
