The recruitment will start in the next fiscal and would be completed in next five years. Every year around 8,752 posts would be filled up in all ranks.

The exercise is aimed at bringing the police-public ratio in Bihar closer to the national average. This is the largest recruitment of policemen in the last 100 years when Bihar was carved out of the then Bengal. Earlier, the proposal was approved by the administrative cadre committee headed by the chief secretary.

In another proposal for higher education, the cabinet approved Rs. 15 crore for improving infrastructure, laboratories and construction of boundary walls of 51 colleges, which were earlier shortlisted for development into centres of excellence.

The repair work is already underway in Patna College. More funds would be allocated to the college to complete the remaining work. Besides, Patna Science College, Magadh Mahila College and several other colleges would also be given funds.
