In a precursor to recommendation of a CBI probe, the Home department has sought detailed information about the irregularities in the recruitment of constables and sub-inspectors in the police department by the then state government, director general of police (DGP) Neelmani said.

The state government had recruited constables and sub-inspectors in the police department in 2004 and made the superintendent of police (SP) of the districts as the nodal officer to carry out recruitment.

The NDA government, on being elected to power in 2005, had set up a committee headed by the then DGP Anand Shankar to probe irregularities in the recruitment in the police department and the committee had submitted an enquiry report in which the allegations about irregularities were found true.
