Ganja worth Rs 10 lakh seized in Bihar, two arrested
DRI sleuths, acting on a tip-off, seized the contraband near Maithi toll plaza in Gaighat police station area of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.
Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized 190 kg ganja worth Rs 10 lakh from a truck in Muzaffarpur district of north Bihar late Thursday night.

The contraband was seized during a vehicle check near Maithi toll plaza in Gaighat police station area of Muzaffarpur district, 71 km north of state capital Patna. The DRI team also arrested the driver and the cleaner of the truck.

DRI sources said the team, acting on a tip-off, carried out the vehicle search at the toll plaza on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga stretch of national highway 57. “When the team asked a truck coming from Darbhanga side to stop, the driver tried to escape. Our men took him and the cleaner into custody and recovered the 23 packets of highly purified ganja , weighing 190 kg, and 640 bags of LDPE plastic granules. The value of the seized ganja and plastic granules in the Indian market was Rs. 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively,” the sources said. The consignment was being taken to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh from Assam, they added.

Quoting the driver, the DRI officials said the deal to deliver the consignment was finalised for Rs 20,000. “He had been given Rs 10,000 as advance at Tejpur in Assam and the remaining amount was to be paid to him at Gorakhpur,” the officials said.
