A train with 25 lakh litres of water reached parched Chennai today. Technicians at the railway station at Jolarpettai, worked from early Thursday to fill fifty wagons with 50,000 litres of water each, sourced from a south Indian river. The train was supposed to reach Chennai on Thursday, but leakages in valves connecting the tank to the railway station forced authorities to push back plans by a day. (ANI )

AAndhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced the setting up of a state calamity relief fund with Rs 2,000 crore to help farmers overcome the impact of severe drought conditions in the state. Reddy also announced the release of Rs 1 crore each to all the 175 MLAs in the state, irrespective of their political affiliation, to help them take measures to resolve the drinking water scarcity in their constituencies.
