PHOTOS: PM Narendra Modi’s 74th Independence Day speech at Red Fort

For India's 74th Independence Day celebration on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the Father of Our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as he visited the Rajghat. He then addressed the nation saying that on Independence Day, we remember the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the freedom of our country. Unlike every year, Independence Day celebrations this year were a bit lacklustre on account of the coronavirus pandemic. PM Modi also applauded the hardwork of India's frontline workers who are working day in and out to battle the coronavirus, also present at the event were around 1500 coronavirus 'winners', or people who have survived the deadly virus, to symbolise Indian citizens' willpower to fight the virus. The Prime Minister's address lasted over an hour and half. And about 4,000 personnel are on security duty for the function.
