Cyclone Sitrang causes damage in parts of Bangladesh and northeast India

Cyclone Sitrang, which made landfall in southern Bangladesh late Monday, weakened into a depression over northeast Bangladesh, north-northeast of Agartala, and south-southwest of Shillong in India. Several houses in Assam's Nagaon district were damaged by heavy rainfall caused by the cyclone. Due to the cyclonic storm on Monday night, a lot of trees and electric poles were uprooted across Assam. According to the India Meteorological Department, most places in northeast India will see light to moderate rainfall.
